DEEP CUT CRYSTAL

I have thrown down that drinking glass
now the rose blooms will never smell the same
I have tasted its wine too many times to enjoy the fragrance

Discard the cork and knife and smash
smash aged crystal snifters
I am golden with tarnished edges
if it had it poured one more time
I might have never found the jewelers mark

I have thrown down that drinking glass now
and fumble through a new maze
the circle game
I feel older not much wiser
although insipid acting might prove wrong

The marrow of pain has be tasted
both physical and emotional I know
much more must be.
I wait empty still flat and dry
to taste love To share the flow of fountain's life with one

I have thrown down that drinking glass
and wonder why
Why have I smashed to shimmering light
a companion so sweet
stinging

So much life has been lived
its intoxicating reign much love has been given
so much joy
much sadness
so much life has been drowned

I have thrown down that drinking glass and
hope one day a pair of open eyes will read
the lines written on arms hands and heart and
find the jewelers mark golden
Love

It is then I can broom away shattered slivers
that old companion and
Rest drinking life's passions
from a new deep cut crystal
